Seven Gardens, Three Buildings
Cheekwood opened in 1932 as the home of Leslie and Mabel Cheek (of the Maxwell House coffee family), designed by Bryant Fleming, and became a public botanical garden and museum in 1960. Fifty-five acres across Belle Meade, about fifteen minutes southwest of downtown Nashville. It is one of the most acoustically varied wedding venues in the Nashville area, which is exactly what makes ensemble selection here more consequential than at most sites.
Ceremony options run the gamut. Outdoor: Wills Perennial Garden (up to 300), Howe Garden (135), Reflecting Pool (120), Herb Garden (60), Wisteria Arbor (50), Blevins Japanese Garden (50), Burr Terrace Garden (35). Indoor and reception: Massey Hall (250), Historic Mansion and Museum (300 with adjacent outdoor spaces, 350 with Swan Lake, tenting and flooring required above 100), Frist Learning Center and Lawn (220). All private evening events start no earlier than 5:30 p.m. for garden ceremonies and 6 p.m. for reception spaces. A backup tent is mandatory.

Garden By Garden
Herb Garden (60), Wisteria Arbor (50), Blevins Japanese Garden (50), Burr Terrace (35) are acoustically tight outdoor rooms with hedges and gravel paths absorbing most reverb. A duo or trio fits cleanly; a quartet crowds both the visual and sonic space at these scales.
At Wills Perennial (up to 300) and Howe Garden (135) the geometry is open sky with limited reflective surfaces. We project noticeably more than indoors, keep tempos firm to hold pacing against any breeze, and position the cello near the Garden's built structures (pergolas, arbors, stone walls) for acoustic backup.
The limestone terraces attached to the mansion are a rare outdoor setting where acoustic strings carry without amplification. Stone walls reflect sound back toward seated guests. We sit against the mansion wall, and tempos can stay at indoor norms, which is unusual for any outdoor ceremony site.
