String Quartet at Chicago Botanic Garden

385 acres across nine islands connected by bridges. Twenty-seven distinct gardens, four natural areas, and 5,000 rosebushes in the Krasberg Rose Garden alone. McGinley Pavilion, Nichols Hall, Burnstein Hall, and the Rose Garden each cover a different kind of ceremony, and getting the ensemble right depends on which of them you pick.

A 385-acre property with multiple wedding rooms

The Chicago Botanic Garden spreads across 385 acres in Glencoe, about 25 miles north of downtown Chicago, with nine islands linked by bridges and causeways. For weddings, several distinct spaces are available. Nichols Hall holds up to 350 for receptions. Burnstein Hall handles 220 for dinners, dances, and meetings. McGinley Pavilion's Waterfront Patio (May to October, with heaters and clear side walls available) offers a canopied terrace over Evening Island. The Rose Garden, with more than 5,000 rosebushes, becomes a wedding ceremony site when tented; tenting is required for any private function there.

Because the property operates as a public garden, wedding load-in and load-out windows are strict, and vendor routing across the islands is specified in advance. The events team runs a tight timeline.

Project String Quartet's North Shore roster includes more than 200 Chicago-area weddings, all performed by conservatory-trained musicians holding a 5.0 rating on Google. Founder Rebecca Hamilton leads the ensemble and personally selects the players for every event. She built PSQ's Bridgerton-style pop arrangements alongside the classical catalog, which means Taylor Swift or Olivia Rodrigo can sit right next to Bach on a Botanic Garden ceremony set list. For a look at the full repertoire, see the music library.

The Botanic Garden is one of the most-photographed North Shore wedding venues. Three different acoustic jobs

McGinley Pavilion on the waterfront

A canopied terrace with the lake as backdrop. Acoustically dry outdoors; the canopy provides some overhead reflection but minimal side-wall help. We play with firmer projection and keep tempos from dragging, and we shade instruments from direct afternoon sun off the water, which is brighter than most inland venues.

Rose Garden under a tent

When the Rose Garden hosts a tented ceremony, the tent fabric changes the acoustic completely, soft, absorptive, short reverb. Strings read clearly at conversational volume under canvas, a pleasant change from open-sky ceremonies where we have to push. We set up near the central pergola for the best natural framing.

Nichols and Burnstein Halls

Both halls are indoor spaces with moderate reverb and designed absorption. Nichols at 350 capacity needs a quartet to carry cleanly; Burnstein at 220 works well with a trio. Standard tempos, full dynamic range, acoustic without reinforcement.

Match to the space you pick

String Duo

Violin + Cello

Fits a small island ceremony under 60 guests. Not enough ensemble for Nichols Hall, Burnstein Hall, or a tented Rose Garden at typical counts.

Request Quote

String Quartet

2 Violins + Viola + Cello

The step up for Nichols Hall at its 350-guest capacity or Rose Garden weddings at 200-plus under tent. The second violin keeps the top line distinct across larger gardens where outdoor projection falls off fast.
