String Quartet at Franklin Park Conservatory

The John F. Wolfe Palm House is a Victorian glass conservatory with a dense tropical garden underneath. The Veridian is its contemporary counterpart, all clean lines and a glass wall onto the Celebration Garden. Then there is the Wells Barn, a proper timber-beam space next to a four-acre garden. One property, four different acoustic environments, and no one-size-fits-all setup.

Four wedding spaces, one conservatory

Franklin Park Conservatory combines historic glass houses with contemporary event pavilions across eighty-eight acres in east Columbus. The John F. Wolfe Palm House is the historic centerpiece, a towering glass ceiling over tropical plantings, with a maximum dinner capacity of 170 and a cocktail capacity of 250. The contemporary Worthington Industries Veridian opens onto the Celebration Garden. The Grand Atrium offers a larger indoor option. The Wells Barn sits adjacent to the four-acre Community Garden and is the timber-beam alternative to the glass rooms.

Total wedding capacity across the property runs up to 500 when indoor and outdoor spaces are combined. A Dale Chihuly glass installation threads through the building, which changes the visual character of every ceremony photograph but not the acoustics underneath.

Because the four spaces are acoustically very different (glass house, atrium, garden-pavilion, timber barn), we ask couples to commit to a ceremony site early. The ensemble recommendation depends on which room.

Founder Rebecca Hamilton is a conservatory-trained violinist who leads the company and vets every player on the roster. PSQ has performed at 500+ Midwest weddings and staffs Columbus-area weddings from that same roster and holds a 5.0 Google rating across all markets. The repertoire runs from classical ceremony standards through the Bridgerton-style pop arrangements that have become a signature of the group. If you are still weighing your options, the guide to choosing a wedding string quartet walks through the decision room by room.

Each room asks for something different

Palm House is a glass room

Tropical humidity plus glass walls makes the Palm House acoustically bright and detuning-prone. We set up against the one solid interior wall, keep instruments out of direct sun patches through the roof, and re-tune after the processional because the humidity pulls gut and synthetic strings in unpredictable directions.

Wells Barn is drier than it sounds

Timber beams and a partially absorptive roof take the liveness out of the Barn compared to the glass rooms. Easy to balance, generous on tempo, forgiving on fast-tempo repertoire. We sit at the short end opposite the reception dance floor so the ceremony has a clean acoustic frame.

Celebration Garden outdoors

Outdoor garden ceremonies at the Veridian's Celebration Garden, Brides Garden, and the four-acre Community Garden are dry and directional. Very little ambient reverb, so we project and slow slightly. Weighted stands and clothespin clips for sheet music in Ohio spring and summer wind.

Ensemble depends on ceremony site

String Duo

Violin + Cello

Fits the Brides Garden or Community Garden at under 60 guests. The Palm House's reverb flatters a duo up to about the same headcount.

String Quartet

2 Violins + Viola + Cello

The step up for Wells Barn receptions in the 200+ range or for couples using the Grand Atrium at scale. Film-score arrangements sound particularly good in the Barn with a full quartet because the timber holds onto the low end.
