The Hotel
The building opened in 1910 as a fashion department store and was reimagined as Hotel Covington with 114 rooms, the Coppin's restaurant and bar on the ground floor, and a set of event spaces sized for boutique weddings. The Eva G. Farris Room runs 2,890 square feet and seats up to 180 (200 standing for theater-style receptions). The Lightwell, the largest space in the building, can host up to 500.
The tone is polished but not formal. Think cocktail-hour atmosphere rather than grand-ballroom formality, which changes what repertoire sits well. Room Notes
Moderate ceiling height and a close geometry make Eva G. Farris a warm room for strings. Acoustic is the default here; we set up along the long wall opposite the service doors so sightlines stay clean. The room scale rewards a trio, the quartet sometimes feels a touch big for the space at lower headcounts.
The Lightwell's open atrium geometry adds vertical space and a different reverb character, especially with a full 500-person reception. If cocktails or the full reception live in the Lightwell, we usually keep the quartet in Eva G. Farris for ceremony and relocate for the dinner, so the music matches the room we are actually in.
Unlike most historic buildings, Hotel Covington has current-generation event power and A/V in every room. If a couple wants readings or officiant mics tied into our setup, the in-house audio team handles it cleanly the morning of the wedding.
