String Quartet at the Columbus Museum of Art

Two ceremony rooms: Edwards Court with a glass atrium ceiling and a Dale Chihuly sculpture suspended overhead, and the Jurgensen Sculpture Garden outside, a quarter acre of lawn in the middle of downtown. The museum opens for weddings a few dozen times a year and each event happens inside a working art institution.

Three wedding spaces

The Columbus Museum of Art was founded in 1878 and moved into its current building on East Broad Street in 1931. A 2015 expansion added contemporary gallery space. Three rooms host weddings. Edwards Court and the McCoy Family Broad Street Lobby sit under a soaring atrium-style glass ceiling, with the Chihuly "Isola di San Giacomo in Palude" suspended overhead; capacity runs 140 seated dinner, 200 cocktails, 200 ceremony. Derby Court is the more classical atrium space. The Patricia M. Jurgensen Sculpture Garden is the outdoor ceremony and reception option, with capacity up to 250 ceremony, 150 seated dinner, 300 for cocktails, on a lawn framed by the downtown skyline.

The Sculpture Garden is an unusually capable outdoor space: sized like a lawn venue, but walkable to Columbus hotels and with the museum's indoor spaces immediately available as rain backup. Most couples use one indoor and one outdoor space across the evening.

Project String Quartet is led by founder Rebecca Hamilton, a conservatory-trained violinist. Every ensemble we field for Columbus weddings comes from the same pool of professionally trained musicians. We hold a 5.0 Google rating across 200+ Midwest weddings. Our repertoire runs from Bach and Beethoven through the Bridgerton-style pop arrangements featured in our Bridgerton wedding music guide. If you want Taylor Swift, Coldplay, or a film score alongside the processional classics, that's standard for us, not a special request. Use the playlist builder to put together your ceremony music before the call.

Three spaces, three different setups

Edwards Court under the glass

The atrium ceiling and the suspended Chihuly create a visually striking, acoustically moderate room. Plenty of reverb without going overboard. We set up against the solid wall opposite the main entrance so the atrium opens directly over the aisle and sightlines stay clean for photography.

Sculpture Garden outdoors

An outdoor lawn venue with zero ambient reverb. We project a little harder, keep tempos on the quicker side, and position the cello with a solid wall of the adjacent museum behind it. The garden's geography means the quartet can always be placed with the skyline as backdrop for guest photos.

Museum protocols

Standard museum-grade vendor operations. Designated service routing, cleared paths past artworks, no open flames, a specific events manager owning the timeline. Load-in and strike windows are strict but predictable, and the events team runs a tight ceremony-to-reception flip. See our complete guide to wedding ceremony music for timing and song-count guidance that applies directly to both CMA spaces.

Trio for indoor, quartet for Garden

String Duo

Violin + Cello

Appropriate for a small private-gallery ceremony or an intimate rehearsal dinner. Not enough ensemble for Edwards Court or the Sculpture Garden at typical headcounts.

String Quartet

2 Violins + Viola + Cello

The better call for the Sculpture Garden at 250-guest capacity, where outdoor projection matters, and for Edwards Court ceremonies at 200. The second violin carries the top line clearly when there is no room to help.
